Office Furniture that Goes the Extra Mile

There are a lot of creative ways to stay active in your cubicle.  From the arm dips on your task chair to the less obvious trip to the water fountain, people are constantly trying to incorporate exercise into the long workday.  But now, these methods have been incorporated into your office equipment as well, so you can keep working while you work out. Check out these cool exercise stations.

Could also be referred to as a standing desk.  Studies have been proving the obvious: sitting down for long periods of time is bad for our health.  But more recent studies have shown just how bad, including connections to diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure.  You may not think of standing as an exercise, but it can benefit core strength and keep your metabolism running.  These desks are pretty self-explanatory.   They have a raised surface, which can be electronically adjusted to match your height as you stand.  They’ll get you up on your feet where you can work on your balance or just simply give your back a break from your chair.

This desk by Steelcase maximizes your opportunity to workout while getting work done.  The treadmill desk literally brings the gym to your cubicle allowing you to sit, stand, or walk as you continue to perform your daily tasks.  Maybe you’re feeling some regret from chowing down that foot-long for lunch and want to walk it off, or maybe you just want to stand up for a while. Choose how you want to get moving, then once your legs have had enough, lower the surface to regular height and take a seat.  This could be a good workstation for the office to share giving employees another work option outside of their cubicle.

An alternative option that features an exercise bike and an integrated platform for your laptop.  The FitDesk is another way to combine your favorite gym equipment and your office furniture, but with a minimal worktop surface, it’s best for a secondary option in addition to your normal work area.  It’s mobile and folds easily, so it can be tucked away in storage when you’re not using it.

One of my favorites that I’ve come across is the WeBike.  It’s neat co-working pod that allows you to work and workout with others while you stay seated.  It is actually made from sustainable material and your pedaling generates the energy that powers your electronic gadgets making it super eco-friendly, which we love.  And since it’s a communal workstation, you don’t have to sacrifice any room in your cubicle to have this option to workout.
